About Me

Welcome to my blog! My name is Erik, and I have been part of the Information Technology field for almost 30 years. I started in cybersecurity before it was even called that, and over the course of my career I’ve had the chance to do just about everything—networking, telephony, wireless, and security. I’ve worked on both the government side and the private side, gaining a wide range of perspectives on how technology impacts organizations.

Over the years, I’ve also pursued industry certifications to sharpen my skills and demonstrate expertise. Some of the most notable that I actively hold include CCNA, CCDA, CASP, and CCIE, along with a long list of other “alphabet soup” certifications that have shaped my technical foundation. I enjoy helping others who are on their own IT journey, and I’m always open to answering questions and sharing what I’ve learned.

Beyond IT, I proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and currently serve as a Civil Affairs NCO in the Army Reserve. My time in uniform has been rewarding and challenging, especially in a high-paced unit where “one weekend a month and two weeks a year” often translates into 29-day orders, surprise schools, and nonstop schedules. Even as I near the end of my service, I strive to stay sharp and adaptable.

Life outside of work and the military is just as full. My wife and I are building an off-grid property by hand, turning raw land into a functioning homestead. This project has taught me how to be resourceful and resilient—skills that complement my IT background in surprising ways. It’s been a challenge, but also a deeply meaningful journey.

Right now, I juggle being a full-time Network and Security Liaison, a drilling reservist, a college student, and a homestead builder. On top of all that, I dedicate time to fitness, recently checking into the U.S. Army Basic Airborne Course. As one of the oldest in the class, I’ve found pride in proving that age is no barrier to keeping up with demanding physical and mental standards.

Looking ahead, my career aspirations focus on advancing in cybersecurity and network engineering while continuing to build my technical knowledge through education and certifications. Through this blog, I plan to document my growth, share insights, and reflect on the lessons learned in both technology and life.

Thanks for stopping by—let’s keep pushing forward together.
